The Counseling Center offers a variety of outreach programs designed to support student mental health, personal growth, and academic success. From workshops and presentations to campus-wide events, these programs cover topics like stress management, healthy relationships, and emotional well-being. All offerings are led by experienced professionals and are available to the UA community throughout the year.
Outreach Programs
The Counseling Center provides a variety of group programming options, known as outreach, related to emotional health and student success. Programs can take the form of presentations, workshops, events, displays and classroom instruction. Our Center also coordinates or participates in focused education or prevention campaigns, including college adjustment (September), suicide (October), alcohol and drugs (November), sexual responsibility and healthy relationships (February), eating disorders and body image (March), and stress management (December and April).

Brain Matters

Brain Matters is our live weekly one hour radio show, aired on WVUA 90.7 The Capstone, on Tuesdays from 6 – 7 p.m. during the fall and spring terms. The show is hosted by Dr. B.J. Guenther, a staff therapist at the UA Counseling Center, and features guests who discuss mental health issues and issues pertaining to the college student population. Some topics discussed are depression, relationships, academic and study skills, finances and anxiety.

Mind Matters Workshop Series

The Counseling Center hosts a “Mind Matters” workshop throughout the academic year. Every workshop focuses on a different topic that students may face or struggle with during their college experience. Each workshop is 1 hour in length.
